The Big Lunch 2010

On Sunday July 19th, 730,000 people took part in over 8,000 events in every type of community imaginable, throughout the UK.

It was not only the biggest set of street parties in the UK since the Golden Jubilee (and the most fun to be had on a windy summer's day for a long time), it pulled together Britain's communities at a time of recession, anxiety and anger with the status quo.

The organisers are now wanting people to make a note in their new diaries of the 2010 date: 18th July.

This date has been chosen for several reasons:

• It is the equivalent Sunday to this year's event, thus establishing a tradition that the middle Sunday of July is The Big Lunch Day
• It is one week after the World Cup Final and is thus clear of any conflicts with this huge sporting occasion
• It maximises the chance of good weather (or so we hope)
• It is, as far as the organisers know, clear of other public events.
